Terms of Use
Last updated: 16 October 2026
The short version. Your song is yours: keep it, play it, share it anywhere. By making it in Rock80 you let us use it too, for example to show it in the game or in a trailer. Selling or releasing it as a commercial music product needs our permission. The lyrics you write must be your own. Rock80 is in early testing, so things may break.
1. Who we are
Rock80 is an independent project in early testing ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [email protected]. By joining the waitlist or playing the game you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Rock80.
2. Who can use Rock80
You must be at least 17 years old. Access to the game is by invite only, and invites are personal: please don't share or sell your code. We may limit how much you can create (for example, a number of songs per day) and change those limits at any time.
3. Your songs
In Rock80 you make songs with your band: you choose ideas and a sound, and you may write lyrics yourself. Parts of each song (some lyrics and the music) are generated with the help of AI.
Your song is yours. To the extent the law allows, you own the lyrics you write and the songs you make with them. Note that, in many countries, material generated by AI without human authorship may not be protected by copyright at all, so neither you nor we may be able to stop others from using those parts.
What you can do without asking us:
Go ahead
- Keep, play and replay your songs in Rock80.
- Share your song's link with anyone.
- Post videos or clips of your song and your gameplay on social media, including on channels that earn money.
- Perform your own lyrics anywhere.
Ask us first
- Uploading the song to streaming services or music stores (Spotify, Apple Music and so on).
- Selling the song or licensing it for ads, films, games or other products.
- Registering the song with Content ID or with any rights or royalty organisation.
We ask this because the music is made with third-party AI services that have their own rules, and because a Content ID claim on one song could hit everyone who shares it, including other players and us.
4. What you let us do
When you create something in Rock80 (songs, lyrics, titles, band names, logos, nicknames), you give us a permanent, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, perform, adapt and distribute it, in the game and in anything that promotes Rock80, such as trailers, social media posts and the website. We may pass this licence to partners who help us run or promote Rock80. This licence continues even if you stop playing, but we will stop using a specific song for new promotion if you ask us to, unless it is already part of something we have published.
5. Your lyrics must be your own
Only type lyrics that you wrote yourself or that you have the right to use. Don't paste lyrics from existing songs. You are responsible for what you write, and you agree to cover our costs if someone makes a claim against us because of content you added in breach of these terms.
6. Be decent
Rock80 is rated 17+, so rough themes and strong language in lyrics are fine. These are not:
- hate speech or harassment, or content that targets people for who they are,
- sexual content involving minors, or content that promotes self-harm,
- attacks on real, identifiable people, or other people's personal information,
- anything illegal, or attempts to break, overload or misuse the game or its servers.
We check text automatically and may refuse it. We may remove songs, scores or shared pages, and suspend invites, if these rules are broken.
7. Guest vocalists are not real people
The guest singers in Rock80 are fictional characters with AI-generated voices. They are not real artists and do not imitate any real person. Please don't present your song as being sung by a real artist.
8. Our stuff
Apart from your songs, everything in Rock80 (the game, its characters, art, music engine, logo and name) belongs to us or our licensors. You may share screenshots and videos of the game, but you may not copy, resell or reuse our assets elsewhere.
9. Copyright complaints
If you think something shared on Rock80 infringes your rights, email [email protected] with a link to the song and an explanation. We will look into it promptly and remove content where appropriate.
10. Early testing, no guarantees
Rock80 is an early test. It is provided "as is": features may change or disappear, things may break, and songs or progress may be lost. Please don't rely on Rock80 as the only place you keep something important. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Rock80, which during testing is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited by law.
11. Ending things
You can stop using Rock80 at any time and ask us to delete your data (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end access to Rock80, or end the test altogether.
12. Changes
We may update these terms as Rock80 grows. We'll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we'll tell waitlist members by email. If you keep using Rock80 after a change, the new terms apply.
